Long Sleeve Plaid Tie-Front Shirt
A longline plaid flannel shirt in olive, oatmeal, and warm taupe with a tie-front hem and a Western-style mitered back yoke — Karen Kane’s Long Sleeve Plaid Tie-Front Shirt is a heritage plaid that earns its place between a shirt and a layer, with enough construction detail to read as considered and enough versatility to wear tied, half-tucked, or open over a fitted base. The plaid is large-scale windowpane construction: wide oatmeal/ecru bands intersect an olive green ground to create the primary grid, and a thinner warm taupe or khaki overcheck line runs through the olive ground blocks as a secondary layer that adds the tonal depth and visual complexity that distinguishes a proper yarn-dyed plaid from a printed one. The result is an olive-dominant plaid with oatmeal as the strong contrast — warm, autumnal, and heritage in character without the loudness of a high-contrast tartan. The back is where the shirt’s construction ambition is most visible: a Western-style mitered back yoke, two angled panels that meet at center back in a chevron or V shape, with the plaid cut at a different angle at the yoke seam line so the check in the yoke panels runs against the check in the back body below — a classic Western shirt tailoring detail that requires careful pattern matching and elevates the shirt beyond a basic plaid flannel. A center-back ease or pleat below the yoke seam provides movement through the back body. The tie-front hem is the front’s defining detail: the shirt’s lower front panels are extended into two fabric ties that knot loosely at the front waist, creating a gathered front knot that shortens the visible front hem and defines the waist without tucking. The shirt’s full length is 33½ inches in size M — a longline cut that hangs at mid-to-lower hip untied and creates the cropped-in-front tie effect when knotted. Classic point collar. Button-front closure with tonal buttons. One functional patch pocket at the left chest. Long sleeves with single-button cuffs. Unlined. Soft yarn-dyed plaid flannel: 50% cotton, 50% polyester. Machine wash cold, hang to dry or dry clean. By Karen Kane. Sizes XS–L. Style #: 3L60702.

Styling Suggestions
- Wear tied at the front over black high-waisted jeans as shown in the campaign — the tie knot sits at the waist, the black jeans’ high rise meeting the knotted hem so the olive and oatmeal plaid reads above a clean black base; a wide black belt with gold buckle worn at the waist over the knotted tie anchors the silhouette and adds the warm gold hardware that coordinates with the olive plaid’s warm taupe and khaki undertones; a delicate gold chain at the neck is the campaign’s only other accessory and the right weight against the plaid’s medium-scale pattern
- Wear open as a layer over a white, cream, or oatmeal fitted turtleneck or mock-neck with dark olive, khaki, or black slim trousers — the olive plaid reads as a flannel shirt-jacket in this configuration, the back yoke’s Western construction visible when the shirt is worn open and adding structural interest to the layered look from behind; the tie-front panels can be left loose or loosely knotted at the front even when worn open as a layer
- Wear half-tucked into high-waisted wide-leg trousers or a midi skirt in a coordinating warm neutral — camel, cognac, or warm ivory — for a combination where the olive plaid’s ground color is the connecting element between a warmer-toned bottom half and the ecru/oatmeal bands in the plaid that pick up the lighter neutral; the longline 33½-inch length half-tucked at one side creates the intentionally undone silhouette that works better with a longer bottom half than a fully tucked-in version
- Style for weekend and casual-smart occasions as a complete outfit with the Satin Scarf in paisley border — the scarf’s dark forest green and amber/gold palette tied loosely at the neck over the plaid shirt’s collar connects two Karen Kane pieces from the same autumn collection and adds a print-on-print layering element where the scarf’s smaller-scale paisley motif reads against the plaid’s larger windowpane grid without competing, both sharing the same forest green and warm neutral color family
